Chess tournaments.

What are they? An opportunity for your child to test his chess playing skills against others. If an event is "USCF rated" your child will be assigned an official rating after competing in a tournament!

Step 1

Get a USCF membership for your child.

Step 2

Register to compete in a USCF rated tournament.

Step 3

Get educated and prepare you and your child for an amazing tournament experience! This is the more complex part. Read on for more info.

Guidance on Step 1

If you have more than one child, make sure to use a unique/different email address for each account/child when signing up for membership thru the US Chess website. If you attempt to use only one email, you will end up modifying the original profile, instead of setting up a new ID for the second child.

Guidance on Step 2

You can find tournaments in your area on the US Chess website.
Find local tournaments in Texas using the drop down list under "Tournaments" menu above. For beginner kids look for events that say "scholastic" in the title with time controls of G/25;d5 as this is most common for novice kiddos.
